I can remember when we got a contract with the Naval Academy to clean & inspect the chimneys there, a the secretary kiss me for good luck since than I have been intrigued by the the history of chimney sweep luck ,I read about Saint Florian the patron saint of chimney sweeps,how he performed many heroic feats including saving an entire town from a rampaging fire with one bucket of water.We have all seen the movie MARY POPPINS where Bert(Dick Van Dyke) talks about(chimney sweeps) luck rubbing off onto you. Perhaps the story started with an 18 century sweep that saved the life of a rider on a paniked horse,the rider turned out to be the king himself. The sweep had already disappeared into the crowd and from that day forward, the king declared all sweeps as lucky.
 
I personally identify with a self employed chimney sweep in Oslo,Germany in the late 1800s( picture riding bike & motorcycle) that started out with little or no resources and built a very successful business and was hired to attend many weddings for good Iuck.He reminds me of my great grandfather who also built a successful business as a mechanic in Bound Brook NJ(Stanley Van Ness white shirt & coveralls with arms crossed in picture) also around the late 1800s.
 
I(Jerome Milton) owner of Clean Sweep had similar humble beginnings(starting out renting a van and doing jobs on the weekend)and growing that into commercial trucks and vans.Though this industry I have been able to go ‘Pick myself up from my own bootstraps’ and’Do for self’ and in the process went from’ashy to classy’for that I am very grateful to the industry.

I called the other clean sweep(firefighters) to come out and do a Ro-Kleening and give me an estimate on a liner, I should have just called you guys first, you guys are the A-TEAM those guys must be the B-team.   Pomraning,Annapolis.
